HC disposes of PIL

No illegal religious structure in state: Govt

Shillong, Sept 2: The Meghalaya High Court has disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) concerning alleged illegal religious structures in public places.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice IP Mukerji and Justice W Diengdoh accepted the state’s status report, which claimed that there are no illegal religious structures in public places.

The state government reported that all irregular structures or constructions in West Garo Hills and East Garo Hills districts have been duly regularized.

The Court had directed the state to file a report disclosing the existence of illegal religious structures in public places, following an order by the Supreme Court.
