Govt to examine report on Reservation Policy

Shillong, Sep 8: The state government will examine and decide on the course of action to be taken on the various recommendations of the Expert Committee on the State Reservation Policy, said cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh after a cabinet meeting held on Monday.

The report, which was tabled in the cabinet on Monday, runs into several thousands of pages and contains some significant recommendations, including economic considerations for reservation.

“We will take some time before we come up with a definite decision on the report,” he said.

Assuring of a balanced approach in considering the recommendation, the minister, however, said, “Government has the option to accept or reject the recommendations.”

Admitting that the report was submitted to the government in June, he said, “We will not commit a mistake of rushing into any decision because each of the recommendations carry a lot of weight and need to be perused.”

On legal implications of the recommendations, Lyngdoh said the report requires an in-depth study before taking any decision on it.
