Shillong, Sept 10: The Court of District & Sessions Judge NA Khan has convicted a Jowai man for culpable homicide not amounting to murder for killing his brother with a blunt object.
In its judgment passed on Wednesday, the court sentenced Dros Pakhem to two years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000.
The case dates back to July 23, 2011, when Dros Pakem allegedly struck his brother, Dao Pakem, on the head with a wooden stool in the Mooralong locality of Jowai.
The incident resulted in severe injuries to Dao Pakem, who succumbed to his injuries the following day while being transported to Civil Hospital, Jowai.
The case was registered at the Jowai Police Station under FIR No. 103(7)11, initially under Section 302 IPC (murder).
The investigation was led by SI E. Pohchen, who filed a charge sheet against the accused.
After a thorough trial, the court found him guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
