Group seeks early completion of Umshyrpi road 

Shillong, Sept 19: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Upper Shillong Circle has demanded the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to expedite the completion of the four lane road from Umshyrpi bridge and repairing of the damaged roads in the area.

After meeting the NHIDCL general manager, the FKJGP said, “We have urged the NHIDCL to speed up the construction of the four lane road from Umshyrpi Bridge to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.”

The federation also demanded immediate repair of damaged roads, including Lum Shyllong Road, 7mer near Elephant Falls, Pomlum Village near PHC, and Baniun Village to Mylliem, to facilitate smooth movement of people.

It has asked the NHIDCL to ensure migrant workers have proper documents before allowing them to work on the project.

The General Manager of NHIDCL has assured the FKJGP that they will try to complete the work in the Upper Shillong area by December 2025 or January 2026. 

He also promised to instruct the companies/contractors to take necessary action and conduct an inspection along with the federation to facilitate the movement of people.
