Shillong, Sep 26: Election of the new chief executive member (CEM) of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will be held on September 30 while the ruling VPP has already nominated Nongthymmai MDC Winston Tony Lyngdoh for the post.
The seven-month-old executive committee (EC) of KHADC collapsed following sudden stepping down of Shemborlang Rynjah, the VPP MDC from Langkyrdem-Laitkroh, from the post citing health reasons.
Meanwhile Winston Tony Lyngdoh is all set to be elected unopposed as he was nominated as CEM designate during a meeting chaired by the VPP chief Ardent Basaiawmoit and attended by all party MDCs.
The party has also announced that Jaiaw MDC Denzil Raynard Chen will be inducted as the new Executive Member.
In his letter to the KHADC chairman Strong Pillar Kharjana, Rynjah had cited health reasons behind his decision to step down as CEM.
Caretaker CEM
Deputy Chief Minister in-charge District Council Affairs (DCA) Prestone Tynsong on Friday said outgoing KHADC chief Shemborlang Rynjah has been requested to continue as caretaker CEM till election of a full-fledged CEM.
Asked if the National People’s Party (NPP) will set up a candidate for CEM post, Tynsong said, “I am not the member of district council. The question of only NPP does not arise. Since we are together in the opposition, I think this issue you can discuss with the opposition leader in the KHADC.”
