State wins top honour in Aadhaar verification

The prestigious recognition is rooted in a special initiative taken in May 2023 to verify all new adult Aadhaar enrolment requests linked to Meghalaya, regardless of where they were generated across the country.

Shillong, Oct 14: In a significant recognition of the state’s administrative efficiency, Meghalaya has been honoured as the Best Performing State in verification of adult Aadhaar enrollment at the national level.

The prestigious recognition is rooted in a special initiative taken in May 2023 to verify all new adult Aadhaar enrolment requests linked to Meghalaya, regardless of where they were generated across the country.

The award was conferred on Meghalaya during ‘Aadhaar Samvaad’ held to mark the inaugural Aadhaar Day at Kothaguda in Telangana recently.

“This prestigious recognition highlights Meghalaya’s commitment to ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient Aadhaar enrolment for all its citizens,” stated an official release.

Every enrolment packet containing a Meghalaya proof of address is automatically routed to the respective district and sub-district, where it is verified by the designated official through the State Government portal.

This system has improved accuracy, strengthened public trust, and greatly reduced the risk of fraud and misuse, thereby creating a safer and more reliable Aadhaar ecosystem for citizens.

The General Administration Department (B) has played a pivotal role in coordinating district-level efforts, monitoring progress, and ensuring seamless execution of the verification process.

This citizen-centric approach has positioned Meghalaya as a model state for Aadhaar-related service delivery.

Congratulating the team, Commissioner & Sccretary and State Aadhaar Nodal Officer Dr Joram Beda said, “Meghalaya’s recognition as the Best Performing State is the result of the collective dedication and hard work of our Deputy Commissioners, BDOs, in particular the District Supervisors, and Operators…”

“This achievement reflects our deep commitment to inclusive and transparent service delivery,” he added.

On behalf of the state, the award was received by Shai Kupar War, Aadhaar Nodal Officer, GAD(B).

Meanwhile, state government has extended its gratitude to all officials and field staff whose dedication and coordinated efforts have made this national recognition possible.
