Shillong, Nov 24: The United Democratic Party on Monday said it is still evaluating strategy for the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council elections put forth by the party’s special committee which was set up earlier this month to assess contest feasibility.
“We’ve formed a committee led by leaders from Garo Hills to assess the situation on whether it is feasible for the party to contest the upcoming elections,” Lyngdoh told reporters on Monday.
Asked, Lyngdoh ruled out pre-poll alliances with MDA partners.
“If we are to enter the fray, we prefer to go solo,” he said.
According to him, the party would wait for the report from the special committee before taking a call on the matter.
Metbah for transparency in MLA scheme implementation
Reacting to the recent remarks made by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma who expressed concern over irregularities in execution of MLA schemes, Lyngdoh said he is open to any kind of inquiry.
“We welcome any inquiry if people see gaps or misuse,” Lyngdoh told reporters on Monday.
Refusing to comment on the opinion of other political parties, he said, ” Personally, as the MLA of Mairang, we strive for hundred percent transparent implementation—ensuring funds reach all the beneficiaries.”
“As public servants, we’re not flawless; shortcomings exist. But the intent must never be corruption or denying rights,” he stated.
“No MLA can claim perfection—we rely on recommendations of the dorbars, youth, women groups for implementing the scheme and we want to ensure transparency in its implementation,” Lyngdoh added further.
