HC orders police protection for Sohra resort owner

Shillong, Nov 29: The Meghalaya High Court has ordered police protection for a resort owner following a land dispute over the resort in Sohra.

The dispute stems from a boundary dispute between Laitryngew and Pdengshong, Sohra.

Office bearers of Laitryngew village had allegedly sought to disrupt the operation of the resort belonging to P Sengborlang Nongkynrih, who claimed to have constructed the resort on his own property with due permission.

“The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills is directed to direct the Officer in-charge, Sohra, to take steps on the complaint (FIR) of the petitioner and to ensure that law and order is maintained and no disturbance is caused in the meanwhile,” Justice HS Thangkhiew said in his order passed on Friday.

The court was informed that despite complaints to the Syiem of Sohra and an FIR filed on October 5 and 13, 2025 (respectively), the police had not taken adequate action, leading to the petitioner approaching the court.

Expressing concern over a letter to the resort owner, the court said, “What is worrying however, is a letter dated 21-11-2025, whereby the petitioner has been directed to remove all structures.”
