Heavy vehicles movement restricted on NH 217 during Me’gong Festival

Tura, Dec 2: Restriction are being imposed on the movement of heavy goods vehicle and large scale passenger vehicles along National Highway 217 on both days of the Me’gong Festival, announced West Garo Hills district administration on Tuesday.

In order to ensure smooth traffic management and public safety during the upcoming Me’gong Festival scheduled to be held on the 5th and 6th December 2025 at Jengjal, West Garo Hills, during which large movement of participants and the general public is expected along NH217, restrictions have been imposed on the movement of Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGVs) and Heavy Passenger Vehicles (HPVs) on NH217 on both days of the festival, the order stated.

Vehicles proceeding towards Williamnagar will be diverted from Asanang tri-junction via the old Tura-Williamnagar road and vice-versa from Samanda for vehicles coming from Williamnagar for commuting.

It was also clarified that these restrictions will not apply to vehicles engaged in essential services such as medical, emergency, utilities and other duly authorised services.
