KSU demands removal of MPSC secretary

Shillong, Dec 17: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has given the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) a 24-hour ultimatum to remove its Secretary, Ashish M Sangma, and implement reforms demanded by the union.

The KSU has threatened to launch agitation programs from January 2026 if its demands are not met.

A statement issued on Tuesday said the KSU’s Employment Monitoring Cell met with MPSC Chairman and members to discuss the union’s demands, including the release of examinees’ marks, answer keys, assets of MPSC employees, and the commission’s annual performance report.

The union alleges discrepancies in the MPSC’s functioning, citing the typist exam, which was conducted descriptively instead of the usual MCQ format.

KSU alleges that the MPSC has not fully implemented the changes recommended by a committee set up by the state government in July 2025.

The union opposes the MPSC’s actions, stating they violate Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) guidelines. The MPSC Chairman has sought time to consider and implement the KSU’s demands by January 2026.

The KSU demands the cancellation of the typist exam, citing unfair practices.

The union’s ultimatum comes after Sangma’s transfer to another department over suspected corruption cases.
