Shillong, Jan 16: The state government is keen on reviewing cases of so-called “tainted” teachers recruited as assistant teachers in lower primary school in 2008, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Friday.
He said the government is seeking a mandate from the court to review the cases of “genuine teachers”.
“We are asking the Supreme Court or High Court to give us a mandate or a clearance if we can review this again. We would be very happy to review it. If there are genuine cases and if there are people who have been affected in a way that is not correct, obviously we would like to review that,” he stated.
The Chief Minister was responding to a query on the status of the “tainted” teachers following the Meghalaya High Court’s judgment quashing charges against former Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, former Director of Elementary and Mass Education JD Sangma, and former Deputy Director Ameka I Lyngdoh.
The Chief Minister assured that the government is in touch with the teachers and is working on options to move forward.
“I have asked the Chief Secretary already to examine the option and he is working on it and see how we can move forward on this,” Sangma added.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister informed that close to 140 teachers were reinstated earlier.
“If you recall, every time the Supreme Court or High Court has given us an opportunity to review, we have reviewed. Roughly about close to 140 teachers were reinstated back in the first assessment, and we had found them to be not really involved in this aspect,” he said.
