Strict border vigil need of the hour, says HYC

Shillong, Aug 5: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has urged the state government to conduct a strict patrol along the Bangladesh border villages as well as interstate movements of people to check possible influx resulting from the ongoing political instability in the neighbouring country.

HYC president Roykupar Synrem in a statement, said, “We are apprehensive of the fact that Illegal entry of people may take place from Bangladesh either through our porous border or through other states sharing international border with Bangladesh, taking shelters as political refugees or asylum seekers or as illegal settlers.”

Synrem also urged the state to activate the Directorate of Infiltrations to work round the clock in all strategic locations in the state, to coordinate with local authorities to keep vigil on the movement of people in their villages and to direct the local police stations to strictly monitor movement of people in their local jurisdiction by working in tandem with local authorities.
