UDP remains undecided on Gambegre bye-election

Shillong, Aug 6: The United Democratic Party (UDP) on Tuesday said that the leaders in Garo Hills have sought time to decide on whether to contest for the upcoming Gambegre bye-election.

Speaking to reporters after the CEC meeting on Tuesday, UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh said that the party has discussed issues related to the Gambegre bye-election, which was necessitated following the resignation of Congress’ Saleng A Sangma after getting elected as new Tura MP.

“We have accordingly decided to leave the matter to the wisdom of the leaders in the Garo Hills region. They have sought time before taking the best decision on the issue,” Lyngdoh said.

Asked, the UDP president said let’s not put the cart before the horse. “We will wait for the recommendation of the leaders from Garo Hills before taking a final call on the matter,” he added.
