Drugs worth over Rs 51 cr seized from Mizoram-registered vehicle
Shillong, March 6: In one of the biggest drug hauls in Meghalaya, crystal methamphetamine weighing 10 kg and worth over Rs 51 crore was seized by Anti‑Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in East Jaintia Hills district on Friday.
According to ANTF, it is the biggest haul of NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) in the state.
The ANTF personnel, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a Mizoram-registered Tata Sumo (MZ‑01‑M‑8625) with two passengers and the driver at Ratacherra in East Jaintia Hills.
They seized 19 plastic soap cases containing 203 grams of suspected heroin from the female passenger.
From the other, a blue trolley bag containing over 10 kg of suspected methamphetamine was seized.
“Preliminary analysis suggests the individuals are part of a larger inter‑state and cross‑border drug trafficking syndicate,” the ANTF said in a statement.
The contraband is worth approximately Rs 51.13 crore in the illegal market, it said.
Investigators are currently working to establish forward and backward linkages of the peddlers.
