Shillong, March 9: The North Eastern Council has disbursed Rs 67.41 crore in February to the eight Northeastern states and regional agencies for undertaking various projects.
The funds for Meghalaya cover an RCC bridge over Lunar river in East Jaintia Hills and a Seng Khasi cultural complex at Kenches Trace, Shillong.
The RCC bridge over Lunar river to connect Khaddum to Brichyrnot village in East Jaintia Hills will enhance rural connectivity and improve access for local communities, including the Hmar community, the NEC said in a statement.
On the other hand, the cultural complex of Seng Khasi Ri Raid Laban at Lum Shat Sngi, Kenches Trace is expected to serve as an important centre for preserving and promoting the indigenous cultural heritage and traditions of the region, it said.
Besides state-specific allocations, NEC released nearly half the amount, Rs 30.07 crore, to to institutions such as IIT‑Guwahati, IIM‑Shillong, NESAC and NERCRMS.
Apart from project-based funding, NEC also supported several cultural & academic programmes including international and regional conferences, skill development programmes, tourism workshops, cultural festivals, craft fairs, and youth cultural exchange programmes during the month.
