PN Syiem announces decision to quit Congress

Shillong, March 10: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) working president PN Syiem resigned from his post and from primary membership in the Indian National Congress on Tuesday, saying the All India Congress Committee had ignored state‑level voices and focused more on attacking the central government than on reviving its Meghalaya unit.

In a letter addressed to AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, Syiem wrote that he had waited extensively for the national leadership to respond to opinions and aspirations of the people of Meghalaya, including calls for a change in state leadership and a revamp of the party organization up to the primary unit level.

Syiem said it had “become clear that the central leadership at the high command is more focused on criticizing the central government rather than listening to the vital opinions of its own members and the public.”

“Therefore, in accordance with the voices of the people of Meghalaya and most importantly, my own conscience, I hereby tender my resignation…effectively from today, the 10th March 2026,” the letter states.
