‘Arrested’ senior citizen in Tura an AI video: Police

Tura, March 19: West Garo Hills District Police have termed fake a viral video showing a senior citizen from Tura being handcuffed and escorted by police.

“No such arrest has been made and confirmed that the image in circulation is AI-generated and completely fake,” West Garo Hills police chief Abraham T Sangma said.

“Authorities said the image does not depict any real incident and has been shared with malicious intent to mislead the public and potentially escalate ongoing law and order concerns in the district,” he added.

Meanwhile, police have urged the public not to believe or forward unverified content and to verify the authenticity of any images, videos, or messages before sharing them on social media.

The citizens have also been urged to cooperate with authorities by promptly reporting any instances of fake or misleading content to the nearest police station, outpost, beat house, or the Police Control Room (PCR) in Tura.
