Shillong, June 23: The One-Time Settlement scheme for pending motor vehicle dues is receiving a positive response and the government will share exact revenue figures by the end of this month, said Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar on Tuesday.
Under the OTS scheme, the government will waive 80% of Motor Vehicles Tax and Dhar said he has directed officials to compile collection data up to June 30.
“I will be able to tell you only by the end of this month. I have told my officers to get ready. Tell me how much revenue we have collected till the end of June, and I will give you the exact numbers,” Dhar said.
He added that thousands of vehicle owners are coming forward daily to avail the scheme.
“The response is very good. Thousands of them every day. With a good scheme like this, who will not come,” he stated.
Goods Tax dues, and 90% of fitness penalty dues for all commercial vehicles, big and small, irrespective of the year.
The move comes as the state has about Rs 11,000 crore in pending dues from roughly 65,000 motor vehicles, 12,642 goods/passenger vehicles, and more than 57,000 fitness penalties. After the waiver of over Rs 800 crore, the government expects to recover Rs 170-180 crore.
