Manipur CM pays homage to two Assam Rifles personnel killed in ambush

Imphal, Jul 8: Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Wednesday paid tributes to two Assam Rifles personnel killed in an attack by suspected militants in Ukhrul district.

Singh laid wreaths on the mortal remains of the two soldiers during a wreath-laying ceremony held at Imphal Airport and observed a moment of silence in honour of Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Havildar Chandra Mohan Singh, an official statement said.

A guard of honour was also accorded to the departed personnel as senior officials from the Army, Assam Rifles and Central Armed Police Forces joined in paying their last respects.

The two belonging to the 40 Assam Rifles were killed at Nungshang Khong under Ukhrul police station on Monday afternoon when suspected militants fired on a convoy of the paramilitary force.

Later, in a post on X, Singh said, “Their courage, dedication, and supreme sacrifice will forever inspire us in our resolve to uphold peace, security, and the unity of the nation.”

“I pay my heartfelt tribute and salute to these gallant heroes. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” he said.(PTI)
