Shillong, July 15: Funds for projects worth Rs 13.58 crore under SoNEC scheme of North Eastern Council (NEC) have been released to Meghalaya during May-June 2026.
The projects cover health, education, energy, culture and connectivity sectors.
Among the key projects is installation of a 1.5 Tesla MRI at Tura Civil Hospital to improve diagnostics in Garo Hills.
There is also infrastructure support for Shillong Polytechnic and a Multi-Disciplinary Training-cum-Resource Centre by NERCORMS.
In culture and community infrastructure, NEC funded the Seng Khasi Cultural Complex and Seinraij Jowai Community Hall.
It also supported upgradation work at Iewduh Market to benefit traders and farmers.
For renewable energy, NEC sanctioned surveys for Mawblei, Myntdu Leshka Stage-II and Selim Hydro Projects.
The Shillong–Umroi Airport Road, also funded by NEC, was completed in June 2026 to boost airport access, tourism and trade.
Separately, NEC released Rs 18.93 crore to regional agencies, universities, NGOs and societies across the Northeast.
Part of this supported events in Meghalaya including the Industry Academia Research Conclave-2025 at NIT-Meghalaya and the Miss & Mister Beauty Pageant-2026 at NEIGRIHMS.
The Council said the funding aims to strengthen public services and accelerate inclusive development across Meghalaya.
