CM Solar Mission to be converged with PM Surya Ghar: CM
Shillong, July 16: The state’s flagship CM Solar Mission will be converged with the Centre’s PM Surya Ghar scheme in order to speed up adoption of rooftop solar power in the state, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Thursday.
The Chief Minister held a review of key energy initiatives, including CM Solar Mission, PM-KUSUM, and PM Surya Ghar, with a focus on expanding access to clean and affordable solar energy across the state.
Strategies were discussed to integrate the state and central solar programmes to maximise coverage, improve implementation and accelerate the installation of rooftop solar systems and other renewable energy projects.
Besides renewable energy, the review also examined the financial health of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
Officials deliberated on measures to improve the utility’s financial sustainability while ensuring reliable and uninterrupted power supply to consumers.
Sangma said the government’s objective is to build a cleaner, more resilient and financially sustainable power sector that supports households, farmers and Meghalaya’s long-term development.
The review comes as Meghalaya steps up efforts to expand renewable energy capacity, reduce dependence on conventional power sources and strengthen the financial position of its power utility.
