Incentives, no registration fees for EV buyers in state

Cabinet clears EV Policy, land compensation for power infra projects

Shillong, July 27: The state government has given its go ahead to the Meghalaya Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026 in a bid to incentivise use of electric vehicles in the state.

In the cabinet meeting on Monday, the government also cleared key proposals to strengthen the power sector, including the appointment of a Chief Technical Advisor and land compensation for a major transmission infrastructure project.

Providing details of the EV policy, Cabinet Minister Marcus Marak said incentive of Rs 25,000 will be given to every buyer of an electric vehicle.

Besides, registration fees for EVs will be fully waived to make the transition to cleaner transportation more affordable.

The EV policy was approved to encourage people to shift to electric vehicles, he said.

In another key decision, the Cabinet sanctioned Rs 22.37 crore towards land compensation for construction of a 6.5-km-long 132 kV transmission line linking the 220/132 kV Secondary Substation to the proposed 132/33 kV, 2×50 MVA Mawkhanu Substation.

The approval also covers compensation for the Right of Way (RoW) required beneath the transmission corridor to facilitate the project’s execution.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet also approved engagement of B.M. War, retired Chief Engineer (Civil) of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), as Chief Technical Advisor (Generation) to the Power Department, drawing on his technical expertise to support the state’s power generation sector.
