Land compensation okayed for 6.5-km power line to NST

Shillong, July 27: An amount of Rs 22.7 crore was approved as land compensation for construction of a 6.5-km-long 132 KV transmission line at Mawkhanu, New Shillong Township.

The transmission line will connect the existing 220/132 KV substation to the proposed 132/33 KV, 2×50 MVA Mawkhanu substation.

Informing the decision taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday, Cabinet Minister Marcuise N Marak said, “There is a stretch of around 6.5 km of transmission line that is being drawn to the Mawkhanu substation. For this, the government will have to acquire some plots of land, and the Cabinet has already approved the compensation.”

The Minister also clarified that in the case of power transmission projects, the land used by the department is termed as ‘Right of Way’.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet also approved engagement of B.M. War, retired Chief Engineer (Civil) of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), as Chief Technical Advisor (Generation) to the Power Department, drawing on his technical expertise to support the state’s power generation sector.
