Two teenagers die in hit-and-run case in city

Shillong, July 27: Two teenagers riding a scooty died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle at Golflink in Shillong late Sunday night.

The victims – Benjamin Shabong (18) and Fabela Grace (17) – were brought dead to the hospital.

“The victims were rushed to the Civil Hospital but were declared brought dead. One is from Mawpun and the other from Pynthor,” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem told reporters on Monday.

The police team reached the spot within 5 minutes after being alerted, the SP said.

Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for the culprit driver and the vehicle.

“We are working to identify the vehicle that was involved. Once identified, we will arrest the driver,” Syiem said.

Investigators will also rely on the post-mortem report to check for factors like alcohol consumption and alertness at the time of the accident.

Traffic police will conduct a parallel probe to fix responsibility.

“From the FIR, it is clear the driver should have stopped and surrendered. Since he fled, it shows fault on his part. We have registered cases against both the driver and the vehicle. We will track it down,” he asserted.
