Govt launches e-tickets for parking in parts of city

Shillong, Aug 2: Electronic fee collection system has been launched for vehicle parking at designated parking zones in the city.

The move follows a directive from the Urban Affairs Department and is aimed at bringing more transparency to parking fee collection in busy commercial pockets of the city, East Khasi Hills district administration stated in a release.

The designated parking stands at Wahthapbru, Mawkhar and Jaiaw Langsning have been identified with authorised operators and attendants assigned to manage them.

At Wahthapbru, stretches along Motphran and GS Road including the area from Bawn Office to Ya Enterprise and onward till Supreme Furniture Shop have been marked for e-ticketing.

The administration has also named volunteers from the Lumdiengshnong Task Force to assist with oversight in the area.

At Mawkhar, the notified zones include areas around the Community Hall, near St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Similarly, at Jaiaw Langsning, parking stands near Jaiaw Presbyterian Church and Jaiaw Bazar will now operate under the electronic system.

The order lists the names and contact numbers of operators and attendants for each stand, along with the approved capacity for both four-wheelers and two-wheelers at every location.

The district administration has clarified that fees will be collected only through electronic tickets and has urged commuters to ensure they receive a valid e-ticket after payment.
