Guitar virtuoso Marcin Patrzałek arrives in city

Shillong, Aug 11: A global youth sensation, Polish guitarist and composer Marcin Patrzałek arrived in Shillong on Monday, a day ahead of his performance at Lariti Performing Centre on the outskirts of the city.

Shillong is among five Indian cities covered under Marcin’s Art of Guitar Tour 2026.

Bowled by the landscape on his drive in from the airport, Marcin said he “couldn’t stop taking videos on my phone through the window, just because of the nature, how exotic it is for me. So, I kind of feel like I’m in a different world right now.”

The fingerstyle and percussive guitarist, known for blending acoustic techniques with electronic and orchestral production, said he was looking forward to performing for audiences in Shillong.

He also expressed hope that the visit would help open more international touring routes for artists and boost cultural exchange.

As part of his Shillong engagement, Marcin will hold interactive workshops and jam sessions with local students, buskers and emerging musicians under the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Program (CM-MGMP).

He praised the initiative for providing “a natural and authentic platform” for young talent to learn and collaborate.

The show will also spotlight homegrown artists. CM-MGMP’s ‘Achiever of the Month – Music Edition’ Chegim Durama from Garo Hills, along with Leo Boys from Khasi Hills and Larger Than 90 from Jaintia Hills, will open for Marcin.

Other MGMP artists will also perform at the programme.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the collaboration reflects the state’s vision to take Meghalaya’s musical talent to global audiences.

Organised by the Department of Tourism in partnership with CM-MGMP and the Chief Minister’s office, the event is part of a broader push to position Shillong — often called the “land of guitars” — as a key destination for music, culture and tourism.

Officials noted that CM-MGMP has also been creating livelihood opportunities for musicians through curated busking gigs at tourist spots across the state.

With a reputation for intimate, deeply engaged crowds, Shillong is expected to give Marcin’s innovative instrumental set a fitting stage, while giving local artists a chance to interact with an artist of global standing.
