Shillong, Aug 19: Residents of Bangla Sohphie have urged the Meghalaya Governor to give assent to KHADC Amendment Rules 2024, seeking to shift their EPIC records from Mairang to Nongspung-Sohiong Constituency.
In a memorandum submitted on Wednesday, the Dorbar Shnong Bangla Sohphie said the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council has already approved the proposal to move the village’s electoral records from Mairang to Nongspung-Sohiong.
According to the village body, the present alignment under Mairang Constituency has created problems for locals in accessing electoral services and completing official work.
The Dorbar stated that aligning Bangla Sohphie with Sohiong Constituency would be more practical given the village’s geographical location and socio-cultural ties.
It would also ensure better governance and representation for residents.
“We request your excellency to kindly accord assent at the earliest so that the transfer of EPIC records can be carried out without delay for the welfare of our community,” the letter read.
The village council further noted that the move is in line with the Sixth Schedule provisions and thanked the Governor for his support in protecting the rights of tribal communities.
