KSU denied permission for sit-in protest

Shillong, August 20: The East Khasi Hills district administration has refused permission to the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) to stage a sit-in demonstration at Khyndai Lad, Shillong on Friday, following the violence that marred the outfit’s rally.

Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal said the decision was taken after assessing the law-and-order situation arising from Wednesday’s incidents.

The incidents have sparked concern among transport operators from Assam, particularly those regularly using the Guwahati-Shillong route.

The Seven Star Tourist Cab Operators’ Union and other motor workers’ organisations have condemned the alleged attacks and raised concerns over the safety of drivers and passengers travelling between the two states.
