Decision to shift was in interest of people, says Celestine

Shillong, Aug 20: Hoping to put all speculations to rest over their decision to shift from the Congress to the NPP camp, senior Congress-turned-NPP legislator Dr Celestine Lyngdoh said that it was done taking into consideration the interests of his people.

 Speaking at a meeting to formally welcome them to the NPP, Lyngdoh said that situation had demanded the three MLAs of the Congress to merge with the ruling party.

“You take any road but take the road that give the best benefit to the people with no hatred to anyone,” he said.

Having joined the NPP, Celestine Lyngdoh was all praise for the MDA government headed by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

“It is not easy for us to say I am leaving my parent party from which I was elected and to join another party but the commitment and the faith that we have between the CM and us with the hope that agreement and commitment that we have will bring changes in our constituencies that paves the way for all things that is happening now,” he said.

Lyngdoh said that the NPP has achieved absolute majority by increasing its strength to 31 in the 59-member House with their joining and this should give the government to decide what is best for the people of the state.

“The strength of the government by our joining is absolute majority. That number should give confidence and courage to this government to decide. People may have misunderstandings but as long as we decide for the good of the people that courage should see us through this journey,” believes Lyngdoh.
