Imphal, Aug 25: Three militants belonging to different proscribed outfits were arrested in Manipur’s Imphal East district for their alleged involvement in extortion activities, police said on Tuesday.
An active cadre of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was apprehended during a search operation at Kiyamgei Awang Leikai on Monday, they said.
The arrested militant was identified as N Sanju Meitei. An AK rifle, an SMG carbine, nine magazines and 737 rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession, police said.
In a separate operation, two active cadres of the proscribed SOREPA were apprehended from Khurai Thangjam Leikai based on “reliable intelligence corroborated by 28 Assam Rifles”, the statement said.
The two have been identified as L Rocky Singh, 37, and P Kumarjit Singh, 36.
They had allegedly come to the area to collect extortion money, police said, adding that a handwritten extortion slip bearing a mobile phone number and the name SOREPA was seized from them. (PTI)
