Shillong, Aug 26: The state government has approved creation of a land bank for setting up administrative offices at Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills district.
Informing about a cabinet decision in this regard, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said funds for land banks were released to newly created districts about 11-12 years ago, but Mawkyrwat and Resubelpara had not utilised them.
“The money has been lying with them for 10 years now. About a year back, we had cleared the land bank for Resubelpara,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the process for Mawkyrwat was carried out at the deputy commissioner’s level through expression of interest, site visits and submission of proposals.
“Two proposals were sent to us. The GAD asked the DC to give one final selection. Based on that, the DC has proposed land at Mawten, approximately 15 acres, 6 kms from the district headquarters, costing Rs 2.19 crore. The money is already with the DC and this land has been finalised for the district administration at Mawkyrwat,” Sangma said.
