Shillong, Sept 1: The schedule for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Meghalaya has been extended by 14 days as procedure of hearings was disrupted due to unrest in Shillong last month. Following completion of the SIR exercise, the final electoral roll will now be published on October 21.
East Khasi Hills has resumed claims and objections and hearing process from August 31 and electors whose hearings were postponed have been asked to attend as per revised schedule.
The revised timeline now fixes September 18 as the last date for filing claims and objections, October 17 for disposal of claims and hearings, and October 21 for final publication of electoral roll.
The revised schedule was announced after Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr BDR Tiwari reviewed the progress of notice delivery and hearings with Deputy Commissioners, DEOs, EROs and AEROs, and also with political parties on Tuesday.
Providing details, the CEO said, “As per the latest position, 6,51,735 notices have been generated, of which 5,71,989 notices have been delivered to the concerned electors. The districts were directed to expedite the delivery of the remaining notices and ensure that the electors concerned are provided sufficient opportunity to attend the scheduled hearings and furnish the required supporting documents.”
Of these, 1,29,298 hearings have been completed. Officials said 297 electors have been found ineligible after due process.
Underlining the scale of verification, the CEO said, “As per the data reviewed, 2,22,786 electors fall under the No Mapping category, while 4,28,858 electors have been identified with mapping discrepancies, aggregating to 6,51,644 cases requiring verification.”
These include mismatches in name and parent’s name with 2005 records, and anomalies in age gaps between family members detected through ECINET.
The CEO reiterated that no deletion from the draft roll would be done without notice and hearing, and appealed to electors to file Form 6 if their names are missing and to attend hearings if they have received notices.
