Residents in 4 of 8 settlements in Govt land in Tura receive land pattas
Shillong, Sept 2: Settlers of Ronggi Songgital area in Tura town had a greater sense of security for life as they received their land pattas on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma formally distributed land pattas to the settlers, who had been living government land under General Administration Department (GAD).
In Tura, there are eight such localities with settlers living in GAD land.
Land documents have been distributed to residents in four such localities so far.
The Chief Minister, in his address, recalled his visit to the locality in 2018 when he had promised the people that he would try to find a way to fulfilling their long-pending demand.
Terming the distribution of land pattas a fulfilment of that promise, he expressed happiness at being able to deliver on the commitment made to the people.
He said the land ownership documents would provide legal security to beneficiaries and help access bank loans, obtain necessary certificates and avail themselves of various government schemes and public services.
Altogether 21 land pattas were distributed to the beneficiaries during the programme.
Describing the occasion as “a great and satisfying moment,” the Chief Minister said the issuance of land documents was the result of dedicated collaboration between the government and the public. He stressed that such cooperation was vital for development and growth.
The Chief Minister assured that similar land settlement matters in other localities would also be addressed in due course.
He reiterated that the government would proceed only with the consent and cooperation of the people and would not impose any decision unilaterally.
District officials stated that the initiative would help streamline land records, improve governance and bring clarity to land ownership in the Tura Town Area.
The beneficiaries also expressed their happiness and gratitude, stating that receiving the land pattas provides them with a greater sense of security and recognition of their rights over the land.
