Shillong, Sept 4: Amid speculations and denials about most of the 12 UDP MLAs planning to join the BJP, the ruling NPP has strongly ruled out the possibility of any such defection within the party.
“Some leaders (from other political parties) want to join BJP now but remember NPP does not betray the public,” NPP National vice president and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said on Friday.
“You elected us in this uniform, we will remain in this uniform. If we betray you, we betray the people of Hynniewtrep Hynniew Skum,” Dhar said while addressing an election campaign meeting at Mawryngkneng.
Responding to allegations against the NPP that the party is a shadow of BJP, Dhar said, “When we work together with BJP, it means we work for development.”
He asserted the party standing by its principles, saying, “We never speak ill of friends or insult people.”
Dhar also dismissed claims of mounting debt of the government.
“The government cannot take loan as it wishes, there are financial rules and guidelines,” he said.
He also advocated for issues to be resolved through dialogues, and not on the streets.
