Shillong, Sept 7: The Meghalaya Government will hold a coordination meeting with state tourist taxi associations on September 11 to ensure smooth movement of tourist vehicles to and from Assam.
The meeting is expected to bring together senior officials from the Transport, Home and Tourism departments, along with police and district authorities and representatives of the state’s major tourist taxi associations.
The All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association, Shillong Tourist Taxi Association and Khasi Hills Tourist Taxi Association have been called to attend.
The meeting follows an earlier meeting held on August 23 at the Meghalaya Secretariat, attended by senior Home Department officials, the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi, as well as representatives of tourist taxi associations.
During that meeting, taxi representatives raised concerns over difficulties allegedly faced by Meghalaya-based tourist taxi drivers. The government had described the concerns as serious and indicated that the matter would be taken up with the Assam Government.
