Williamnagar Civil Hospital doctors remove 15-kg ovarian tumour

Williamnagar, Sept 14: Doctors at the Williamnagar Civil Hospital recently performed a first-of-its-kind surgery under epidural anaesthesia, successfully removing a 15-kg ovarian tumour from a 45-year-old woman.

On September 8, doctors at the hospital operated on the woman, who had a significant cardiac history, further complicating the high-risk, life-threatening procedure.

Given the complexity of her medical history, epidural anaesthesia was administered during the surgery. The patient had been complaining of abdominal swelling and pain for more than four years.

The doctors successfully removed the tumour which measured 46 × 15 × 11 cm, marking the hospital’s capacity to undertake complex medical procedures. The patient is recovering well and is expected to be discharged on September 15.

The surgery was led by Dr Vince Momin, Senior Gynaecologist and Lead Surgeon, with Anaesthetist Dr Sengrak Marak overseeing the anaesthetic management.

Staff nurses Eulin, Eugine and Dinea, OT Technician Trinchi, and Dr Tanmoy Momin, Medicine Specialist, also contributed to the patient’s perioperative, postoperative and ICU care.
