All-party meeting in Manipur discusses NRC, safeguarding indigenous identity

Imphal, Sep 15: An all-party meeting convened by the Manipur government discussed the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and measures to safeguard the indigenous identity and security of the state, officials said on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh chaired the meeting at the CM’s Secretariat on Monday evening. Senior leaders of the BJP and Congress, along with representatives of civil society organisations, attended the meeting, they said.

“Discussions were held on crucial state matters, with a strong focus on the implementation and updating of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to safeguard the indigenous identity, security, and future of Manipur,” an official statement said.

Singh listened to the concerns raised by political leaders from different parties, and the meeting ended on a positive note, it added.

In a social media post, Singh said the meeting discussed several issues, including the updation of the NRC “in the interest of the people” of the state. (PTI)
