Bangladeshi national arrested at IGI Airport with 1.3 kg gold worth nearly Rs 2 crore

New Delhi, Sep 16: A Bangladeshi national was arrested with over 1 kg of gold worth Rs 1.88 crore at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here, an official statement said on Wednesday.

The man arrived from Jeddah and was scheduled to travel onward to Dhaka when he was intercepted by Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel in the International Transit Area of Terminal-3 on September 12.

Intensive checking led to the recovery of three oval capsules containing gold in chemical paste form. The capsules were concealed inside the man’s undergarment, the statement said.

The total weight of the capsules, including the packaging, was around 1,596 grams, it said.

The passenger was offloaded and brought to the Customs Preventive (Shift) at the airport, where the extraction process yielded two gold bars weighing 1,346 grams and valued at Rs 1.8 crore, it added.

According to the statement, the passenger admitted during questioning that he was supposed to hand over the gold to a contact within the transit area.

The gold was seized and the passenger was arrested under the Customs Act, the statement said. (PTI)
