Shillong, Sept 23: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has asserted that the merger of eight UDP MLAs with the BJP would further strengthen the Conrad K Sangma-led MDA government.
The BJP’s increased strength in Meghalaya Assembly will ensure better coordination within the ruling alliance, Rijiju said after welcoming the legislators at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Wednesday.
“We will have better coordination, more understanding and fasten our efforts to develop Meghalaya,” he said while terming the political development a defining moment for Meghalaya and the Northeast.
Being a leader from the Northeast and a minister in the NDA government, Rijiju said, “It is extremely important for the political history of North East, political journey of Meghalaya, it is a defining moment.”
He also congratulated the eight MLAs for taking the bold and crucial decision to join the BJP.
According to Rijiju, the legislators were influenced by the transformation of the Northeast under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last 12 years.
“The way BJP has changed the politics of development in North East, all 8 MLAs are extremely impressed and influenced by Modi Ji and our BJP-led NDA government’s performance..,” he said.
