Shillong, Sept 23: Deficit school teachers in Meghalaya will hold a rally in Shillong on September 25 to press for their demands concerning retirement benefits and the implementation of provident fund schemes.
Announcing the protest on Wednesday, Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) president Boswell Pala said teachers will gather before 11 am in front of the MBOSE office and march in a procession to Malki ground for a rally.
Pala said the core dispute is over retirement benefits. Work on CPF and NPS implementation started in 2023-24, but the government is now pushing the Meghalaya Non-Government School and Colleges Employees Centralized Provident Fund Scheme 2026.
“We have rejected the 2026 scheme since day one. It has no legal basis,” Pala said.
Listing pending dues, he said, “We demand release of 51% and 53% DA, with 53% due from July 2025, and the 43% arrear from January and February 2024.”
Other demands include enforcing the 10% CPF contribution from salary, regular monthly salary without delay, implementation of MACPS for deficit teachers, and urgent filling of vacant deficit posts in schools.
“Many posts are lying vacant. We urge the government to fill them at the earliest,” he said.
Pala also flagged the dissolution of the Board of Trustees that protected funds of teachers appointed before April 2010.
“There must be a Board of Trustees for our money. They have dissolved ours. Bring back our Board,” he said.
