Guwahati, Oct 6: Three members of a family, including a woman, were killed and three others were critically injured when their car hit a guardrail on National Highway 27 in Assam’s Kamrup Metropolitan district on Tuesday, police said.

The accident took place in Khetri area when the speeding vehicle was travelling from Guwahati to Nagaon.

Three people died on the spot, and the injured persons were rushed to the nearby Sonapur District Hospital, where their condition is stated to be critical, a police officer said.

The deceased have been identified as Monima Begum (40), Ribul Ali (17) and Amiruddin (40), and their bodies have been sent for postmortem. The injured were Putumai Begum (55), Anisur Sultan (10) and Rustam Ali (50), he said.

Seven people lost their lives in a head-on collision between a truck and a mini-bus in the same area on August 30. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had attributed accidents on the stretch to poor maintenance of the highway by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). (PTI)
