Shillong, Oct 6: The faithful of the Shillong Archdiocese have contributed Rs 5 lakh towards relief for victims of the recent devastating floods in Assam.
A delegation of the Catholic Association of Shillong, led by vice-president Barnabas Nongbah, handed over a draft for Rs 5 lakh to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on October 4 as a donation to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The delegation included general secretary H Kharlyngdoh, past president of Synjuk ki Seng Rangbah of Shillong Archdiocese Carlus Kharkongor and president of Synjuk ki Seng Rangbah of Jowai Diocese Henry Mannar.
“The money donated was the contribution made by the faithful of the Shillong Archdiocese in response to the call given by the Local Ordinary in aid of those affected by the recent devastating floods in Assam,” said Kharlyngdoh.
The association said the contribution reflects the solidarity of the Catholic community in Shillong with the flood-affected people of neighbouring Assam.
