NEC releases Rs 14.03 cr for projects completed in Meghalaya

Shillong, Oct 6: Meghalaya saw completion of two key projects worth Rs 14.03 crore while the North Eastern Council (NEC) released Rs 42.63 crore in September 2026 for development projects across the North East.

The Council said of the total amount released, Rs 35.21 crore went to Northeastern states and Rs 7.42 crore to regional institutions and agencies for capacity building, infrastructure and technology.

The two completed projects in Meghalaya are school buildings at Mawthadraishan in West Khasi Hills at Rs 4.75 crore and Cultural Complex of Seng Khasi Ri Raid Laban at Lum Shat Sngi Kenches Trace, Shillong, at Rs 9.28 crore.

Altogether, 14 major infrastructure projects worth Rs 45.48 crore were completed and closed during the month.

Among them are Music & Youth Activity Centre at Yasogei, Kohima in Nagaland at Rs 9.17 crore, Auditorium and Basic Amenities at Phek GHS at Rs 1.92 crore, Girls Hostel (G+1) at JN College, Pasighat in Arunachal at Rs 4.27 crore, and Backward Community Scheme for Limboo Community in Sikkim at Rs 4.53 crore.

Three agriculture sector projects in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong in Assam worth Rs 11.55 crore were also closed. This includes Lumbajong Development Block at Rs 4.97 crore, Sarmen Hanse village at Rs 1.97 crore and Chinthong Block at Rs 4.61 crore.

Other sectoral closures include seven bamboo processing prototype processors through NECBDC at Rs 2.10 crore, IT Education Programme covering 150 schools in Mizoram at Rs 11.08 crore, AVGC and IT-ITES training gap-funding, AI & Emerging Technologies Seminar, NSSS 2026 and She-Friendly Programme covering 20 institutions in Shillong.

State-wise, Nagaland got Rs 11.92 crore for coffee value chain development and Cultural Activity Complex at Pfutseromi Village.

Mizoram received Rs 6.29 crore for auditorium at Champhai, cultural tourism infrastructure at Vangchhia, ginger cultivation, mineral mapping and community infrastructure in Siaha.

Assam received Rs 4.42 crore for hostels at Bineswar Brahma Engineering College, Kokrajhar and Singpho initiatives in Tinsukia. Sikkim got Rs 4.17 crore for CCTV surveillance and multipurpose hall at Rhenock College.

Arunachal got Rs 3.40 crore for nursing hostel at Yingkiong, Acheso tourism complex and Ziro View Point.

Tripura and Manipur received instalments for ongoing projects including Model Haat, Eco-Park upgrades, Birsa Munda birth anniversary programmes, medicinal plants documentation, Museum-cum-Library and river debris collection units.

The regional allocation of Rs 7.42 crore includes Rs 2.88 crore for NECBDC for bamboo clusters, Rs 2.35 crore for NEHHDC for handloom skill development, Rs 1.24 crore for NECTAR for STEM labs in remote schools, besides support to NEDFi, NIT Meghalaya, IIM Shillong, NEHU and NESAC.
