Meghalaya govt signs pact with Airtel Foundation

Shillong, Oct 8: The Meghalaya Teacher Training Academy (MTTA) on Thursday signed an MoU with Bharti Airtel Foundation to provide professional development support to teachers through its digital platform.

The agreement was signed at the Cabinet Room, Main Secretariat Building, in the presence of Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, who chaired the ceremony.

As part of the tie-up, Meghalaya teachers will get free access to TheTeacherApp, which offers self-paced courses, live webinars by experts, AI-enabled tools for lesson planning and assessment, resource banks, question banks and a collaborative space – Teachers’ Lounge.

Aligned with NEP 2020, the platform draws from the Foundation’s over two decades of grassroots experience and currently has over 3.25 lakh users across 36 States and UTs, implemented in partnership with NITI Aayog and state governments.

Terming continuous learning crucial, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said, “Empowering our teachers through continuous learning is central to improving the quality of school education. Technology-enabled platforms like TheTeacherApp will provide educators in Meghalaya with accessible, relevant, and need-based professional development resources that complement classroom practices.”

Welcoming the partnership, Binu Nair, COO, Bharti Airtel Foundation said, “Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our children. Through TheTeacherApp, we aim to support educators with continuous learning opportunities, practical classroom resources, and innovative digital tools that help them grow professionally and enhance student learning.”

“We are deeply grateful to the Government of Meghalaya and the Meghalaya Teacher Training Academy for their leadership and collaboration in advancing teacher professional development,” he added.

The collaboration aims to build teacher capacity and improve learning outcomes by integrating technology effectively into classroom practices.

Commissioner & Secretary Education Vijay Kumar Mantri, MTTA Director Jacqueline Una Kharpuri, Bharti Airtel Foundation COO Binu Nair, Regional Head Kumar Ashutosh and senior officials of Education department and Directorates were present.
