NEEPCO records Rs 769-cr profit in 2025-26

The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) has recorded its highest-ever Profit After Tax of Rs 769.08 crore in 2025-26.

The NEEPCO also accounts for nearly one-third of the North East’s total installed power generation capacity, according to a release issued on Friday.

At the monthly meeting of the Inter-Media Publicity Coordination Committee (IMPCC) at NEEPCO headquarters here, Chief Human Resources Officer Samiran Sinha Ray briefed on the Corporation’s overall performance, major achievements and ongoing initiatives.

NEEPCO’s installed capacity, financial performance, major operational milestones, upcoming projects and contribution to the region were highlighted at the meeting.

The meeting was informed that NEEPCO has an installed capacity of 2,051 MW in the North Eastern Region, comprising 1,519 MW hydropower, 527 MW gas-based and 5 MW solar.

According to National Power Portal data, this is about 32.6 per cent of the region’s total installed capacity of 6,298 MW.

Major stations including the 600 MW Kameng Hydroelectric Power Station in Arunachal Pradesh, commissioned in 2020-21, was also highlighted at the meeting.

NEEPCO said it is pursuing several major projects including the 240 MW Heo, 186 MW Tato-I and 700 MW Tato-II hydro projects in Arunachal Pradesh.

In renewable energy, it is also pursuing a 300 MW ground-mounted solar photovoltaic project at Bikaner, Rajasthan.

These initiatives are expected to augment capacity and support India’s clean energy transition, the corporation said.

Its CSR and community development initiatives focusing on education, healthcare, sanitation, skill development and support for economically disadvantaged sections were also highlighted.

As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, NEEPCO has adopted the MUDA Shopping Complex at Khyndailad, Police Bazar, Shillong, as a Cleanliness Target Unit (CTU) and is undertaking regular cleaning, removal of paan and lime stains and littering to promote hygiene.

The meeting reviewed publicity activities of the previous month and discussed media plans for the coming month for dissemination of information about government programmes and institutional achievements.

Representatives from NEEPCO, NEHU, Soil and Water Conservation Department, Power Grid, Census authorities, Akashvani Programme Section, ICAR Umiam, Doordarshan Kendra Meghalaya, IMD Shillong, NEIAH, NECTAR, PIB and CBC attended the meeting.
