2,641 electors have been found ineligible for inclusion in the final electoral roll, while 20,86,026 electors have been marked for final publication
Shillong, Oct 12: Over 95 per cent of hearings linked to Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Meghalaya has been complete, with the final voter list scheduled for publication on October 26.
Hearings of 6,21,399 cases of the total 6,51,735 notices issued during the revision exercise have been conducted, according to figures revealed during a virtual meeting between Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari and district election officials.
The notices comprise 2,22,786 cases involving missing mapping and 4,28,949 cases involving mapping discrepancies.
So far, 2,641 electors have been found ineligible for inclusion in the final electoral roll, while 20,86,026 electors have been marked for final publication, the Election Department said.
Tiwari directed election officials to expedite the remaining cases while ensuring that decisions follow statutory procedures and the Election Commission of India’s directions.
The CEO also held a separate meeting with representatives of recognised national and state political parties to review the progress of the revision, the status of notices and hearings, applications received and preparations for publication of the final roll.
Over 28,000 applications received
The Election Department has received and digitised 28,627 applications during the revision process.
These include 17,248 applications for inclusion of names, 1,963 seeking deletion or raising objections, 1,673 for shifting residence and 7,743 for corrections to electoral roll entries.
Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers have been directed to scrutinise and dispose of the applications within the prescribed procedures.
Voters advised to check names
The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 26 under the revised schedule approved by the Election Commission of India.
A special enrolment drive for people left out of the electoral roll, first-time voters and young electors is proposed after publication of the final list.
The Election Department has urged voters to verify their names after October 26 through their Booth Level Officers or the Election Commission’s Voters’ Service Portal at https://voters.eci.gov.in.
It has also reminded electors that possessing an Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) does not, by itself, entitle a person to vote. The voter’s name must be included in the electoral roll in force for the constituency concerned.
