4,000 ad hoc employees regularised in 5 years

Cabinet nod to regularisation of 26 ad hoc staff

Shillong, Oct 13: Services 26 more than ad hoc employees have been regularised, taking the total number of such regularised employees to nearly 4,000 in the past few years.

Informing about the cabinet decision on Tuesday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the 26 employees were appointed against sanctioned posts on or before December 31, 2007 without following due recruitment procedures.

“This is the fifth batch we are regularising. Every time some complications come up where some individuals appointed on ad hoc basis before December 31 were left out,” Sangma said.

He clarified that ad hoc here refers to direct appointments made against sanctioned posts without examinations or interviews.

The move is in line with a Supreme Court ruling that allowed the state to regularize such appointments, he said.

“We have regularized over 3,000 employees in the last four to five years, touching almost 4,000. Today we found another 26 who were left out and have regularized them as well,” Sangma said.
