Final poll roll records voter count drop by 1.65 lakh
Shillong, Oct 26: Following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, the voter count in Meghalaya has witnessed a drop of over 1.65 lakh as the final electoral roll was published on Monday.
The state has 21,83,963 voters – a drop of 1,65,682 electors from the pre-SIR count of 23,49,645 – after publication of the final roll.
The final photo electoral rolls of all 60 Assembly constituencies were published with reference to October 1, 2026 as qualifying date.
The rolls were published after completion of enumeration, draft publication, claims and objections, notices and hearings, Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari said on Monday.
Before SIR, the state had 11,58,740 male, 11,90,898 female and 7 third gender electors with gender ratio 1028 and EP ratio 651.
During enumeration from June 30 to July 29, BLOs went house-to-house and distributed 23,49,645 forms, but only 21,69,243 were collected back.
The remaining 1,80,402 were not collectable and excluded from draft roll published on August 5 — including 81,490 deceased, 45,011 absent, 42,532 shifted, 6,701 duplicate and 4,668 others, he said.
The draft roll had 21,69,243 electors — 10,53,039 male, 11,16,199 female and 5 third gender — with gender ratio 1060.
Tiwari said 6,51,735 notices were generated — 2,22,786 for unmapped electors and 4,28,949 for logical discrepancies.
“Hearings held 6,51,735, hearings completed 100 per cent, electors deleted after due process 6,724,” he said.
Claims window from August 5 to September 18 saw 21,694 inclusions (Form 6/6A), 2,276 shifting, 2,526 deletions and 12,860 corrections accepted, pushing final count to 21,83,963 — a net increase of 14,720 or 0.68 per cent over draft.
Final roll has 10,59,743 male, 11,24,216 female, 4 third gender, gender ratio 1061 and EP ratio 606.
Tiwari asked electors to verify names on voters.eci.gov.in, ceomeghalaya.nic.in, ECINET App, through BLOs or EROs/AEROs offices.
He said appeals against ERO order can be filed before District Magistrate within 15 days under Section 24(a) and second appeal before CEO within 30 days under Section 24(b).
He announced special enrolment camps across districts as per ECI direction dated October 1, 2026 for electors whose names were in pre-SIR roll but missing now, unenrolled eligible citizens, first-time young voters, senior citizens, PwDs and vulnerable groups.
Tiwari thanked electors, political parties, BLAs, Dorbar Shnongs, Nokmas, media and election machinery including DEOs, EROs, AEROs, BLO Supervisors and BLOs for completing SIR.
