Shillong, Nov 3: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has ruled out any further cabinet expansion or reshuffle but maintained that “politics is fragile”.
“Politics is very fragile in one way… many things keep happening. We never thought this kind of situation would happen but it did happen. So I do not write off anything,” he said when asked if induction of Paul Lyngdoh in the cabinet marks an end to cabinet inductions.
In some of the biggest political developments in Meghalaya in just a couple of months, as many eight UDP MLAs joined the BJP while three merged with ruling NPP and the lone remaining UDP legislator and cabinet minister eventually Metbah Lyngdoh quit as minister.
Replying to reporters’ query on cabinet reshuffle, he said, “Yes, in a normal circumstance, we don’t expect more to happen right now. We expect this particular government with these particular ministers will complete this term.”
Asked about accommodating more MLAs, he said, “…as you know there is a limit to the number of ministers and therefore we have to work on the basis of 12 numbers…it is not possible for us to accommodate anybody else from any political party or in fact anybody from the NPP also at this point in time.”
