Shillong, Nov 28: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has slammed the state government over its alleged failure in taking action against the “corrupt” Vice Chancellor of National Law University (NLU), Meghalalya.
The VC, Indrajit Dube, has been involved in various irregularities, including misusing university funds, making illegal appointments, and violating the Meghalaya State Reservation Policy, the KSU stated in a letter to Law Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Thursday.
The KSU lamented that the government has failed in its promise to launch an inquiry within two months, as six months have already passed without any action.
“The VC of NLU continues in his merry ways making illegal appointments and continuing his corrupt practices,” it said.
The KSU highlighted several instances of alleged corruption, including expenditure of Rs 15,10,347 on non-official visits, Rs 3,56,750 on alcoholic beverages, and payment of Rs 46,83,500 as salaries to professors who did not take classes.
“The VC is very keen to change the reservation policy as to allow his nepotistic appointees to be permanent employees of NLU. To this effect, in the recent recruitment of Asst. Professor, he deliberately put excessive eligibility criteria so that none of the indigenous candidates are able to apply,” it stated.
The union has urged the government to take necessary action against Dube before his term ends in February 2026.
